background / biography
Nostalgic, poignant and whimsical, OCTAVIA’s outstanding debut ‘Winter Enclosure’ was embraced by both critics and audience when released in May 2005. Grounded in doom metal, the heavy riffs, weaved around ethereal vocals have won OCTAVIA flattering comparisons to the likes of CANDLEMASS, THE GATHERING and THE THIRD AND THE MORTAL. OCTAVIA reached top 10 best newcomer acts 2005 in highly important Terrorizer magazine and top UK hard rock magazine, Kerrang! described the album as ‘Extravagant, dramatic doom with a rock ‘n roll heart.’
OCTAVIA’s second album ‘Grace Submerged’ is due for release in May 2007. Like ‘Winter Enclosure’, this album is recorded at Earshot Studios in Bergen, Norway, and produced by Herbrand Larsen and Arve Isdal (Enslaved, Audrey Horne, I, Sahg). Also Morfeus (Limbonic Art, Dimension f3h) contributed parts of the recordings. The album is mixed by Geir Luedy (Lydriket) and Herbrand Larsen .
Originated in 2000 as a project involving a bunch of friends, OCTAVIA soon turned into a viable commodity. They supported ENSLAVED at the release party for the album, ‘Monumension’ in Bergen in 2001 and were consequently booked for a variety of Norwegian festivals, including Hole In The Sky, Ride This Train, Slottsfjellfestivalen and Lost Weekend. After showcasing at by:Larm 2004 as one of the 50 most promising acts in Norway, they landed their first record deal with UK-based Candlelight Records.
Preparing the recordings of a new record, OCTAVIA went to Tone's home in Sandefjord in October 2006 to do a pre-production in Morpheus's (Limbonic Art, Dimension f3h) MOF studio. Shortly after they started recording their second album. Like with ‘Winter Enclosure’, OCTAVIA used producers Herbrand Larsen and Arve Isdal and Earshot Studios, and Bjørnar Nilsen, singer of Vulture Industries and producer of several Bergen bands Helheim, Vulture Industries and Bourbon Flame, assisted during the recording process. Also Morfeus took part in recording the synth and one of the songs on the album. In addition, Herbrand Larsen collaborated with producer Geir Luedy on the mixing this time. The album 'Grace Submerged' is due for release in May 2007.
OCTAVIA has supported metal legends PARADISE LOST, CATHEDRAL, AMON AMARTH, FINNTROLL and CRADLE OF FILTH on their respective UK tours. Launge party 16th of May for their new album will of course take place in their home town Bergen at Garage. Then they are heading for Stavanger, and thereafter enter UK again for three more shows, among others supporting legendary FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM.
